Rugby Sevens at the South East Asian Games
Rugby Sevens will be an official sport in the South East Asian Games (SEAG) for the very first time at the upcoming 24th SEAG being held at Thailand this December 06 – 12 2007. However, the PRFU was at the forefront of introducing the sport to the SEAG, when we introduced it as a site sport for the 23rd SEAG at Manila in 2005. In fact we won the Gold at the tournament, so the Philippines is looking to defend its title.
Player Eligibility for SEAG
To be eligible to represent the Philippines in the PRFU National Sevens team at the SEAG, players must as a minimum be Filipino itizens. This is much stricter requirement then the normal IRB eligibility rules for players representing a country – which only equires that a person be a resident of that country for three (3) years.
With the Asian International Rugby Union Season upon us current and prospective Filipino-Heritage Rugby Union Internationals are hard at work with the Parramatta Two Blues Rugby Union Club preparing for the Asian 5 Nations (A5N) Division 3 tournament being held at the University of Makati in the Philippines between the 1st and 4th of July.
