The weather was perfect and the pitches were in great condition for the ACTIVEFUN Junior
Touch Rugby Challenge tournament, held at the British School Manila (BSM) on the morning of Saturday, October 18, 2008, in conjunction with the Philippines Rugby Football Union (PRFU).
Over 120 boys and girls, including more than 70 from the host school, participated in a fun
tournament which will be the first of a series of such tournaments, and will culminate in a Junior Touch Rugby Carnival to be held in Alabang in early 2009. BSM welcomed schools from the European International School (EIS) who were marshalled by Romain Barberis, Bahay Bata Orphanage, who sent two teams on the long journey down from Angeles and the Tuloy Orphanage with Carlito “Ahlo” Abono in charge.
3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and no points for a loss, followed by the For and Against Tries scored, e.g. 4 points, 8-9.

Matt Cullen of the PRFU had organised an enthusiastic group of referees who controlled matches played in four age groups - children of ages up to 8, 10, 12 and 14.
Whilst there were no medals or trophies, in keeping with the spirit of the nature of the tournament, the results below show an even level of competition with BSM and EIS topping the table in two of the age groups and the Bahay Bata boys leading the remaining two groups. Given the number of BSM boys and girls, BSM fielded a number of evenly balanced sides and BSM Select sides were then pitted against the Tuloy and Bahay Bata teams.
A very knowledgeable and appreciative crowd attended and stayed on to watch a seven-a-side demonstration match played on the full field. Thanks to all those who attended, particularly the ten BSM coaches, fresh from their Level One, IRB-sanctioned coaching course.
