To welcome 2009, the PRFU Board and its member-clubs have decided to expand and step-up their efforts in taking the Sport of Rugby Union to the underprivileged youth in orphanages and charitable foundations.

Cebu Dragons entered this years Fat Boy 10’s tournament with a fairly new and young squad. With the Dragons Captain, Noel Flowers, on fathers leave for his newly born baby girl, Nyte Flowers. Stand-in Captain, Jerry Branzuela, lead the in-experienced side to its 3rd Shield Championship.
With 6 new player’s, playing in their first ever rugby tournament, the Dragons started the tournament on a rough start by losing its first 3 pool games against the strong and experienced sides of Taipei Baboons, Manila Carabao’s and the Alabang Eagles. An attitude change came over when the Dragons entered the “do or die” finals stage of the Shield cup. Veteran Dragon’s players such as Donald Bartolata, Marlo Luceno, Kong Corpuz and Kenneth Cosido stepped up their leadership roles and helped guide the young dragons to victory.
The weekend was a great success for Cebu Rugby Club, not only in winning the shield championship but further reaching the clubs goal in developing young talent in Visayan Rugby. This was also the 1st showing of Cebu Rugby Clubs veteran team, the Low Flying Dragons, which made it to the semi-finals of the Bowl Cup.

A special mention to the young Dragons who will be attending trials for the national Under 20 squad: Lester Loma, Ted Velez, Jong Chiu and Kong Corpuz.

With the Asian International Rugby Union Season upon us current and prospective Filipino-Heritage Rugby Union Internationals are hard at work with the Parramatta Two Blues Rugby Union Club preparing for the Asian 5 Nations (A5N) Division 3 tournament being held at the University of Makati in the Philippines between the 1st and 4th of July.
