Foundation Club Programs
One area of particular interest for the PRFU is the support and development of Rubgy Union in several Filipino foundations.
In our efforts to grow the sport of Rugby Union in the country, the PRFU have been teaching the sport to new junior clubs, schools and foundations for the past five years. These junior teams participate in the CBRE Juniors tournament which now has up to 500 players in attendance every month. The players are 6 to 16 years old and play touch and tackle rugby.
The PRFU currently employ Development Officers to coach at the following Foundation Clubs:
The PRFU defines “FOUNDATION CLUBS” as any junior Rugby Club that fulfills any of the following
criteria:
A number of players from PRFUs Foundation Club Program have already represented the Philippines in National under 19, 18, 16 and 14 age categories. Some of the Philippines’ most exciting and skillful young players have started their careers in these foundations and it is truly an inspiring experience to coach these young athletes and to see them achieve results that any parent would admire in their own sons and daughters. It is envisaged that the Foundation Club players will eventually make up a majority of the national underage teams.
The PRFU are dedicated to sustaining the Foundation Club Program which requires sponsorship for each of the eight current clubs.
