Round 2 PRFU 7's League games held over last weekend (Saturday, 8 October) at Clark Airbase in near perfect weather conditions. Not too hot, overcast and dry with a field that was soft underfoot from the previous night's rain but wasn't muddy. Right now Nomads is at the top of Division A with 20 points having won all their games and got bonus points for scoring more than 4 tries in each game. In round 2 last weekend they beat their sister team the Nomads Carabaos and MAAP1. Eagles are second on the points table with 5 points and Carabaos have 4. MAAP 1 - fighting the big boys with a bunch of new players - is at the bottom of Division A. However, these results are a bit skewed as some teams have played 4 games & others only 2. A new column has been added to the points table to indicate this. In Division B, the Nomads Lizards are at the top of the table with 17 points, having edged out last weeks table topper's, Makati Chiefs, who now have 13 points. Last week (October 1) in Round 1, the Chiefs won both their games and the Lizards won one and drew one. This weekend the Lizards won both of their games and got 2 bonus points, whereas the Chiefs won one and lost one. Alabang Ibons are running 3rd in the table, but again, they have only played 2 games to the others 4 as last weekend was their "bye". The PAF played really well this weekend - they are improving all the time. There were much stronger attacking moves by the team and they scored some points. They only lost to MAAP 2 by one try, so that was a very close game. One of their star players, Hermie - a 23yr old, 200 pound ball of fire - was unlucky to miss his second try of the day when his opposite number managed to knock the ball out of his hand just as he went to touch down and score a try. The Orchid Inn, Angeles City were generous in providing several crates of beer for the players after the game and so the wins and losses of Round 2 of the PRFU 7's League were celebrated in fine style - in true rugby tradition! |
