Sinulog10s Champions Alabang Eagles take home the Dragon’s Cup as they beat old rivals, Nomads Rugby Club in extra time at the 1st Sinulog 10’s Rugby Festival on January 20 in Cebu. With the history of both clubs as being the old rivals of Philippine Rugby, a tough and hard game was to be expected.New and old spectators to Rugby crowded the field in anticipation as they witnessed hard tackles and quick passing by both teams but the fired up Eagles started the game with a bang and ran in two quick tries in the 1st half. The Nomads, led by Romain Barberis, sparked in the 2nd half and fought back to score 2 tries to equal the game in full time. Eagles stepped up a gear in extra time and scored another 2 amazing tries utilizing there speed advantage against the Nomads. Nomads, with the never say die attitude, kept coming back but to no avail as they met the Eagles tough defense which was led by there captain, Tom Egerton, who had an amazing try saving tackle in the dying seconds of the game. |

A report on the first game of rugby in Cebu!! At last, myself, Damien Alinson and Rogier Boks managed to get our balls out at the weekend and the result was a good one. We somehow accumulated 14 campaigners for the first touch rugby session of Cebu City RFC (see attached Club Crest). The game took on a life of its own and is obviously the talk of the town. Baby Dragons The fittest man on the pitch Rob "Iron man" Greville pulled a hamstring and was our first recorded injury (get well soon Rob) but his countryman Kiwi Andrew Sinclair ran in the first try in CCRFC history. AFL representative Drew McNiven showed sterling form and pace and South African Ross McCarthy spent most of the game in mid-air, diving is obviously his forte as he dived for touches and as soon as he was within fifteen yards of the line. Tim O’Donnel made good use of the Subs bench and was the first man in CCRFC history to take himself of the pitch. All in all massive potential for good fun and the occasional cardiac event. |
