Nomads vs HMAS Darwin Sunday October 8th was the start of the PRFU 15-a-side Rugby season at the Nomad Sports Club, Merville Park, Paranaque. Four men’s teams participated in the afternoon event, including the Australian Navy team from the visiting ship, HMAS Darwin. The main game was between the Nomads vs HMAS Darwin. An interesting match was set as hard hits and tackles were displayed.HMAS Darwin drew first blood and scored within minutes of the start of the game. Nomads held their composure and got back into the game scoring shortly into the 2nd quarter. The experience in playing as a team of the Nomads showed on the field with their support play and scrumming taking control of the game and scoring another 4 tries until the final whistle blew, with the score 29 - 7 to Nomads.

Rugby legend Gary Ella visited the Philippines in December last year (2005) at the request of Rick Hartley - the coach of the first all Filipino Rugby Team (Maritime Academy Academy of Asia Pacific MAAP). Interview Q: What did you expect to find when you got there? Gary: Although obviously I knew about the Philippines before traveling to Manila, I did not know a lot about the country and certainly wasn’t expecting to find a country with such a large population. It is a country of contrasts from the very wealthy to those who live a more traditional way of life in very modern cities. Manila is as busy as any city I have ever visited. |
